So quaint inside. The elderly lady at the hostess stand could be a bit friendlier but everyone was really polite and helpful. Our server was so good and attentive and informative with everything. The green beans were definitely canned and not very flavorful. The cole slaw is very "vinegary" so be aware. Cornbread was dry, chicken was really good but if you like white meat you must request it. They have booths and tables and fast service. Opt in for the family style dining, you get to try a little of everything. I will say however they have the best pot roast I think we have ever had. YUM! As was the REAL mashed potatoes. YUM. Gravy is super thick. For the 3 of us family style dining w/ drinks was $87. Not bad for what you get. Reminds you a lot of Michie Tavern. Parking is not in abundance, but it works, it is all gravel so if it has rained, watch out. Very muddy. They do take reservations. Again this was my take and our experience and not all who dine there will have the same review. Thank you to Yelp for allowing us to review.

This is a hidden gem. The service was fantastic and the fried chicken was delicious. I got the roast beef as my second meat and it was outstanding. Can't wait to go back.

We are CRAZY about Tanglewood Ordinary! We come with friends as much as we can, and introduce new people to them as well. This is a family style restaurant and the fried chicken is always included and then you order one more meat of your choice, as a table. We normally choose the pot roast. The fried chicken is the best, and I always eat at least one more piece than I really needed to, or should have. The last few times we have gone the sides have been mashed potatoes with gravy, black eyed peas, and green beans and stewed tomatoes. All are delicious! Cole slaw has always been included and it has a great flavor. One time macaroni and cheese was a side and it was one of the best I had ever had in my life. Cornbread and biscuits are always included as well. The desserts are pure comfort food and things like warm cobbler with ice cream and pies. The servers are always fantastic and you feel so welcome. We especially enjoy the atmosphere at Christmas time. We will go again and again.

This is a small little place right smack dab in the middle of nowhere Virginia but it's got such an amazing vibe that I would make the 45 minute drive again and again if it were possible. This place is what Cracker Barrel wishes it was, from the cute and quirky decor to the southern style food that is worth dreaming about. The workers were super sweet and kind to me and my family (and their plentiful questions and asking for refills). I chose to get the to-go box and ended up with three meals worth of leftovers so I found that it was very worth the extra $1.25. On the way out, the hostess noticed that my box was leaking and she happily wrapped it up in plastic wrap for me and bagged it again. I am quite the sucker for authentic southern home cooking and I have to say, this place is the perfect example of what that should look like.

We love it here. It's down to earth and relaxed. The food tastes like grandmas cooking. All homemade with tons of flavor. Family style dining so they keep bringing all you can eat to the table. It's a nice drive to get there. Go hungry and leave stuffed.

A ton of fun with loads of food. Great, great service. Sodas are not free refills. Only tea and lemonade are unlimited.

Very nice little restaurant on the side of the road. Enjoyed spending time with old friends and acquaint family style southern restaurant. Everything was a bit salty to my taste, but overall enjoyable for a home cooked meal of southern charm. Make sure you're paying attention because you can drive right past it

Once a 1920s general store, today Tanglewood Ordinary oozes Americana charm. At this one-room restaurant about an hour west of Richmond Southern food and family-style dining reign supreme. Once you sit down an endless stream sides arrive (green beans, stewed tomatoes, corn bread, coleslaw, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttermilk biscuits & pinto beans) along with fried chicken and another meat of your choice. The refills on food are unlimited but the offer doesn't apply to soda.

We drove past this on our way home one day coming home on route 6, and decided we had to bookmark it for soon. A couple weeks later we'd all had a busy weekend where I'd done a lot of cooking for extended family etc and so we wanted full bellies without all the work. So glad I remembered tanglewood ordinary restaurant! We got there for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon with our two young kids and there were already a few dining, but very open at that point. Service was super friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves completely family style, so what they're cooking is what they're cooking and they let you know the menu and you have a couple choices as far as sauces, your extra meat, etc then they bring it all out and you serve it up for yourselves and pig out! Lots of food, good price. Easy with kids because you don't have to worry about a kids menu or ordering random things and not knowing portions and then having them want some of yours anyways! Doesn't hurt that all the food is the sort of home cookin comfort food you can't help but love (what kid can turn down fried chicken??) Food came out fast and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Took some leftovers home. Couldn't finish though we may have wanted. They offer dessert but we couldn't go there. Definitely a fun and family friendly place that would be great to bring company, especially my in laws from the UK--they'd love getting an authentic taste of ol virginny.

Hold everything! This ain't no ordinary run of the mill restaurant! No sir! This is some good ole down home country cooking that left us feeling fat and happy! I loved this family style log cabin style eatery. The atmosphere was like you were in your own dining room. Dim lighting and big farm tables added to the coziness. We opted for a booth though because it was just me and hubby tonight, but what a great space for large groups! The menu is family style... so Clay, our server brought out tons of dishes that were hot and delicious! The service was fast as a coon hound chasing a rabbit! The fried chicken was slap your mama good! Juicy and crispy! Clay came back to us with second servings of the chicken and was on his toes tonight! We loved the homestyle mashed potatoes and gravy, the black eyed peas, the stewed 'maters, the green beans, the coleslaw, biscuits and cornbread, and the tangy bbq! I mean to tell you folks, it was all good! We chowed down hard and for the amount of food, the price was reasonable, about $17.50. We will most definitely return to this charming watering hole soon! I can just hear granny saying "Y'all come back now, ya hear!"
